Baytel Associates explores the markets and business opportunities for residential and commercial water treatment products — products that consumers throughout the world use to improve, store, and dispense their drinking and working water. We offer consulting services, field work, best-in-class market reports, and technology analysis reports. Most of the larger global and regional players are Baytel clients.
We have researched the markets for these products “boots on the ground” in more than 50 countries and for more than 40 years. We explore how these products compete with bottled water and complement tap water, taking into account how consumers’ perceptions of water quality or product effectiveness often differ from measured reality. Our expertise extends to the technologies, components, and media enabling these products and their consumables, as well as business opportunities and strategies. Household water filters, purifiers, softeners, components like UV-c LEDs, filter media, household penetration (installed base), replacement cartridges, market saturation, regulatory compliance, pricing and so forth — Get the data and insights you need!
Over the past four decades, Baytel has supplied market data and great insights to a number of the leading players in this industry. Baytel’s early and extensive exploratory research of the (then nascent) Chinese market for residential and commercial water treatment products helped pave the way for Amway’s line of eSpring water purifiers and Dow’s (now DuPont's) line of residential and commercial RO membranes, resulting in billions of dollars of sales of these products in China and throughout Asia.
Baytel is also the company that was brought in to pitch A.O. Smith's CEO and his team to move into the adjacency of manufacturing RO-based water purifiers for consumers in China because of the enormous market potential Baytel saw developing there. (At the time, A.O. Smith was a huge manufacturer of water heaters — but it did not yet make water filters or purifiers.) Moving into this new line of business turned into a major source of revenues for A.O. Smith.
